Celebrating 80 Years of Moomin Stories

It all began in 1945 with the publication of the first Moomin tale, The Moomins and the Great Flood. Written by Tove Jansson during the challenging times of World War II, this enchanting fairytale was crafted as a source of comfort amidst darkness. It reflects the struggles of millions of displaced individuals searching for a place to call home.

In this inaugural story, we follow Moominmamma and Moomintroll on their journey to find a new home and the missing Moominpappa. Their adventure leads them to the idyllic Moominvalley, where a tall blue house stands—a joyful haven welcoming everyone, no matter who they are or when they arrive. The Moominhouse symbolizes security, shelter, and a profound sense of belonging—universal needs that remain as relevant today as they were 80 years ago.
